Pitt Street, Darling Harbour

Client brief: “make our home come together and look complete, adding touches of Feng Shui, storage solutions and a calm place to sit on our balcony.”

From the moment you walked into this apartment, you entered the formal lounge and dining area, it was clear that this part of the home was the most challenging for the client, they wanted the property to feel lighter and fresh, and had asked us to incorporate Feng Shui into our decorating.

In the main living spaces, we had to work with the clients existing furniture, which was dark stained timber furniture and black leather lounge suite.

We selected sheer white flowing curtains, these added a layer a privacy without compromising style, as well as pops of colour with scatter cushions, we replaced the coffee table with a circular variety, that had a brushed silver top, this reflected light rather than absorbing it and we added blue ink art to the walls, this fulfilled the Feng Shui of the brief and added contrast to the blank walls and a pleasant focal point.

In the dining area, we continued with the large ink art on the walls, this created flow between the two spaces, whilst also achieving the Feng Shui element, working with the clients existing dining table and oriental themed corner cabinet, we had one of our tradesman design and construct a custom, built-in cabinet, in the same dark stain as the existing built-in cabinetry, this not only created flow between the rooms but it gave the client additional storage which is something they desperately needed, ticking off three brief points.

The client requested a garden space with seating as the brief for the balcony, they wanted somewhere they could relax and that was easy care, for the adults. We added medium sized trees to the background, some with coloured flowers, to hide the cream painted wall and add depth, we added small potted colour at the base for contrast and to make the balcony feel cosy – the plants chosen are drought tolerant and evergreen, so they won’t drop their leaves in large quantities. We also added a small coffee table and two white chairs, which didn’t overpower the space and yet were a comfortable and relaxing addition to the balcony brief.

The client agreed that Calmnest Property Styling team had trumped the brief – creating a home that was cosy and modern, yet flowed together and nothing looked out of place, we stayed within the set budget and the client fell in love with their property all over again.
